Sheriff offers reminder that firearms are off limits on school campuses

With the start of modern gun deer season upon us Montgomery County Sheriff David White wants to remind everyone to be mindful of where they carry firearms while attending school functions.

Sheriff White stated recently that it is a felony for anyone to bring a firearm onto school property. This includes the parking lot at a school campus. He reported that there have been a couple incidents recently where people were attending school functions and were seen with a firearm in their vehicle on school property.

This statement is just a friendly reminder to everyone to be mindful of where they are carrying their firearms. However, there is a zero tolerance policy on all Montgomery County School campuses regarding firearms on school property. Therefore please take the time to remove your firearms from your vehicle before attending a school event.

This also applies to concealed carry permit holders and weapons they may have on their person at school functions. Sheriff White shared that a person who possesses an enhanced concealed carry permit is the only one who can legally carry a firearm on a school campus.
