MOUNT IDA – Mount Ida city employees received raises and the proposed 2020 budget was approved as the Mount Ida City Council prepares for the upcoming year.
The meeting opened with a quick approval of the minutes and financial statements.
Mayor Jo Childress brought up the upcoming 2020 proposed city budget.
The only question of note came from Alderperson Rick Farmer. He asked why the budget projection for the municipal fund that is set aside to pay salaries for the the district judge and clerk weren’t enough to cover their salary.
Treasurer Carlyn Hall explained that money received by the city for the fund is not enough to cover the salary. The remaining monies needed is drawn from the city’s general fund. When asked why they didn’t budget more she stated that they can only budget what is paid into the account, which as she stated isn’t enough to cover the proposed expenses.
Council members approved the third quarter budget and then approved the proposed budget for 2020.
The Alderpersons also approved the third quarter budget for waste water and waterworks, but the 2020 proposed budget was not complete at the time of the meeting. Mayor Childress stated that the budget would be ready by Friday and a special meeting would be called to pass it before the end of the year.
The council entered into executive session to discuss the possibility of raises for city employees.
After returning to general session the council approved raises for all hired employees. A list of individual employees was read with their new salaries. One employee was omitted, but Mayor Childress stated that they would take care of their raise at a later time.
Raises received were approximately seven percent per person.
With no other business the meeting was adjourned.
