Junior Lady Lions runners-up at Bismarck Tournament

BISMARCK TOURNAMENT RUNNERS-UP…
The Mount Ida Junior Lady Lions defeated both Centerpoint and Poyen in the Bismarck Invitational Tournament last week to earn a spot in the finals of the tournament on Saturday. The Lady Lions brought home the Runner Up trophy after a loss to Bismarck. The Lady Lions are coached by Sean Kelloms.

The Mount Ida Junior Lady Lions opened the new year with an impressive trip to the finals of the Bismarck Junior Tournament where they finished runners up.

They opened the tournament with a 21-16 victory over Centerpoint.

Both teams got off to a slow start with the first period ending in a 3-3 tie. Mount Ida slipped out front in the second period to take a 13-6 halftime lead. The Junior Lady Lions added four to their lead in the third and held on in the fourth to win the game by five.

Gracie Summitt led the team with nine points, followed by Scout Wilson with six, Bri Hamilton with three and Gracia Huitt with two.

The Junior Lady Lions punched their ticket to the finals with a nail-biting 28-27 victory over Poyen.

Mount Ida jumped out to a 9-3 lead at the end of the first period and held a 17-11 lead at the half. The second half was a struggle with Poyen outscoring Mount Ida 10-7 in the third and 6-4 in the fourth, but the Junior Lady Lions were able to hold on for the win.

Scout Wilson led the team with 11 points, followed by Bri Hamilton with nine points, Gracie Summitt and Destiny Dillon each scoring three and Mikayla Ellison scoring two.

The Junior Lady Lions fell short of the tournament title in a 27-16 loss at the hands of the host Bismarck Lady Lions.

Gracie Summitt and Scout Wilson each scored five, Gracia Huitt scored four and Mikayla Ellison scored two.

The Junior Lions fell in the first round 23-20.

Ramsey Gilbert scored 13, Caleb White scored four and Jack Hoeksema scored three.

Mount Ida dropped three at Dierks last Tuesday. The Junior Boys fell 42-28, the senior girls lost 57-28 and the senior boys were defeated 63-32.
