MOUNT IDA – Parents, friends, family and community members are asked to line the streets of Mount Ida Friday, May 8, as the 2020 Mount Ida Senior class is honored with a celebratory caravan through town.
School closures and social distancing restrictions have put all graduation ceremonies on hold until at least July, but this doesn’t mean the community can’t gather safely to honor local graduates. The caravan is a great opportunity to bring the class together to be honored for their hard work.
The caravan does not replace their graduation. The school has not issued a statement as to when the actual graduation ceremony will take place, but they are still planning to have one at some point.
The parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. at the Montgomery County Annex building located at 117 Ray Drive in Mount Ida. The caravan will wind its way by the High School, the courthouse, Mount Ida Civc Center and then the nursing home. From there they will make their way past Dairyette and on to the Fairgrounds.
All members of the 2020 Mount Ida High School Senior Class are invited and encouraged to participate in the caravan. Seniors are encouraged to decorate their vehicles.
Family, friends and community members are invited to line the streets of Mount Ida to show your support as the caravan makes its way through town.
Editor’s Note: The article in the May 7 issue of the Montgomery County News stated the caravan would begin at Bobby Barrett Elementary School. This information was based on an older plan. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. It will begin at the Annex.
