The National Forest Service has announced that Charlton Recreation Area has reopened. Charlton Recreation Area is located 20 miles west of Hot Springs along Highway 270.
Picnic, swim, hike, and fish along picturesque Walnut Creek, a cold, spring-fed mountain stream in the heart of the Ouachita National Forest. This historic recreation area features a captivating native stone dam that forms the swimming area and rustic bathhouse built by the Civilian Conservation Corps federal work program in 1935.

The Forest Service is currently having problems updating their webpage, so the recreation area may still show as closed online; but they want to assure everyone that it is indeed open.
Please do your part as you visit the Ouachita National Forest.
Practice social distancing. Provide space of at least six (6) feet at all times during your visit
Do not gather in groups. Follow the latest guidance from officials.
Communicate with others as you pass while hiking. Alert trail user of your presence and step aside to let others pass
Pack out your trash. Leave with everything you bring in and use.
