MOUNT IDA – The Mount Ida School Board approved a bid for a pair of parking lot projects and hired a new softball coach during last week’s monthly board meeting.
The projects include concrete work for the parking lot at Bobby Barrett Elementary School campus and an area in front of the multipurpose facility on the high school campus.
Board President Deana Cole opened the lone bid for the projects. Gerald Abernathy Backhoe and Dozer submitted a bid of $244,000 for both projects. The bid was approved unanimously.
The board also filled the softball coach position. The board of directors entered into a brief executive session before approving the hire of Robert Collum as the new head softball coach and assistant football coach. He will also teach middle level science. Collum has most recently served as the head football coach at Horatio from 2017 until this year.
Superintendent Mike White has met with all coaches to outline rules and regulations for practice and workouts under the COVID-19 guidelines. Individual workouts are underway for football and basketball.
The board approved a student transfer to Caddo Hills School District.
