Work to replace a hydrant in Oden has led to a temporary boil order in the Oden/Pencil Bluff area.
Customers are asked to boil their tap water beginning Thursday, August 5. The boil order began at 7 a.m. for all connections south and west of the 88/Brushy intersection in Oden. The order will extend to the rest of Oden, all connections east of Oden to Pencil Bluff at 12 p.m. Thursday, August 5. This second order includes all connections from Blowout Mountain to River Front Drive at Pencil Bluff.
Oden Water Department will be replacing a fire hydrant located in Oden and its valve located in Pencil Bluff Thursday. The replacements are needed to troubleshoot a possible leak at the Highway 88/Taylor Drive intersection. They will also replace a damaged blow/off at River Front Drive. They will also be installing a new system control valve in Oden.
Work will begin shortly after 7:00 AM in Oden with the installation of a new control valve. This will require turning off all connections west and south of the 88/Brushy intersection in Oden. This should take 1-2 hours to complete with another 30-40 mins to restore pressure. For this part of the system, a Precautionary Boil Order goes into effect at 7:00 AM. Once again, a boil order is required whenever pressure is lost for an hour.
Next is installing a service pack in the hydrant at Big T’s. This should directly effect no one in the community. Assuming no complications, this should take less than an hour.
Next is troubleshooting a possible leak at the HWY88/Taylor intersection. This will require temporarily turning off service to all connections west of Brushy Bridge. Assuming no complications, service interruption should only last a few minutes.
The replacement of the hydrant and valve at the 270/88 intersection will likely begin sometime after noon. This work could take 2+ hours and will require turning off service to all connections west of the 270/88 intersection, west-bound 270 after Bent Tree lane to Blowout Mtn Road, and east-bound 270 from Pencil Bluff Drive to River Front Drive. Restoring pressure could take 1-2 hours. Due to the length of time necessary, this part of the system will be under a Precautionary Boil Order beginning at noon.
If time permits, will be replacing a blow/off at the end of River Front Drive. This should not effect any connections in the system.
Due to the changes in pressure, expect to see a milky appearance to the water for a few days. Will be flushing that evening and probably Friday to minimize any complications. I highly recommend turning off power/gas to water heaters or adjusting its thermostat appropriately during the service suspension. The boil order for the effected areas of the community will extend into next week until the samples provided to the Department Of Health test safe.
